When my 6 year old Epson 4010 long throw projector developed a large cluster of dead pixels I decided to replace it with a UST projector. Being new to UST’s, I researched the Formovie Theater, the Hisence PX-2 Pro, and the Epson LS800. I occasionally watch movies in HDR but I mostly use my projector as a TV replacement. My only complaint with my previous projectors was that they weren’t bright enough to watch during the day in my game room. Because of this I ultimately chose the Epson LS800 due to its brightness levels. And I am so glad I did!
Some of my observations:
Installation- This was by far the easiest set up I’ve ever experienced with a projector. After placing the unit on my end table approximately 7” from the wall, I used the phone app to square up the image to my 120” screen perfectly in seconds. So simple and quick. No more ladders, mounting brackets, or hassles I was used to when installing a regular long throw projector. And no more replacement bulbs after 1 year or less!
Sound- I have everything hooked up to my AVS however the included Yamaha sound bar does sound great. If I ever have to temporarily move the projector the internal speaker is more than adequate.
Adjustments – There are only a limited number of basic image quality adjustments available on this projector. If you’re a cinephile who changes different aspects of the image constantly depending on what you are watching, this projector is probably not for you. However, I found the factory settings more than acceptable and only tweaked the contrast and color slightly on my unit on day one and have not changed any settings since then.
Brightness – This projector is so much brighter than any projector I have previously owned. I have fluorescent lighting in my basement game room and can watch TV with no problem with my lights on. As of today I am projecting onto my 1.1 gain long throw screen that I’ve used for 17 years. And even though i can see the minor perfections in my screen, overall the picture looks great to me. I am eventually going to invest in an ALR/CLR screen when I can afford it, however even on this screen I am extremely impressed with the image brightness and quality.
Overall I am extremely pleased with my purchase from ProjectorScreen.com. During the decision process I spoke with the projectorscreen team several times and they were always extremely patient and helpful answering my many questions. Shipping was fast. I ordered my projector the Wednesday before the Super Bowl. It showed up 3 days later and I was able to impress my neighbors who came by to watch the game. If you are a sports enthusiast like me you will love this projector. I couldn’t be happier with how bright and clear the image quality is on the Epson LS800 for live sporting events. If you are on the fence about purchasing this unit my advise would be to buy it!
