I will preface this review by saying this is the first full sized projector I have ever owned. I will be able to compare to 2 LG TV’s I own, the 75” QNED99UPA and 65” B1 OLED. I was excited to get my hands on the LG HU915QB ultra short throw (UST) projector. I had no way to mount a projector on the ceiling nor a screen on the wall. The solution of this projector and a floor rising screen was perfect for my needs. I suggest getting a UST specific screen. There wasn't much to take out-of-the-box. There was the 27lb projector, a remote control with batteries, power cord, simple manual book, and warranty card. It has some size to it - 26.8" x 5" x 13.7". There is a mesh front and a focus knob on top behind where it projects. On the rear there are 3 HDMI ports (1 eARC/ARC), 2 USB ports, optical audio, LAN, and power. It’s 4K, up to 3000 ANSI Lumens. Projection size ranges from 90”-120”. For my setup, it’s 100”. There is a speaker system built-in which sounded OK, but I never use TV speakers for sound. The projector sits right in front of the screen on a table (around 6”). Setup was easy for me as it’s the same interface as my LG TV’s. With other projectors I have had to use keystone adjustment based on the angle. The adjustment with the HU915QB is more detailed, as you have a 4, 9, or 15 point adjustment levels which allows you to fine tune the edges. The focus ring is the final touch for clarity. It’s hard not to be thrilled with this projector. Part of the reason is simply due to me never having such a large screen before (75” LG in the home theater room is my largest). This projector’s main use is for sports in my sports themed basement. There is not a lot of outside light (small windows) which makes for a better watching experience. And I will say, the picture quality is excellent. I tested watching several different sports as well as checked out a movie. I watched part of a movie for black level testing. As expected, not as deep as a TV, but still not too shabby. Sports, the main reason for this projector, looks great. The colors are vibrant, edges are crisp, clarity is great, all of which makes for a great watching experience. I have become very fond with LG products in the audio/video world, and this projector is no exception.-Customer Review From LG.com
The projector exceeded my expectations. It has a better picture than my LG and Sony 4k tvs.
The 3 channel laser gives off color that is intense. Every picture streamed through the projector pops on our screen. Add that to the real 4k uhd and the picture quality is unbeatable. Every detail and edge is crisp. The short throw ratio had been a really great feature - we keep the projector about 4 inches from the screen, so no worries about blocking the picture or anyone walking in front of the projector. The auto brightening feature really helps the picture quality as sunlight streams through our space at different angles. The webOS 6.0 makes accessing all our favorite streaming apps quick and easy.-Customer Review From LG.com
While initially skeptical about performance of a UST vs. standard OLED television, I have been blown away by the quality, clarity and brightness of the LG Cinebeam HU915QB. It is definitely up there on the price point but the unit does not disappoint with any category except for sound quality. When I ordered the UST, I also submitted an order for a screen, but the screen would not be delivered for several days after the projector. Instead of waiting, I fired up the new toy and used my plaster wall with a robins egg blue paint as my screen. The image from the projector was fantastic with clarity across a space that was well beyond 120". The color of the wall seemed irrelevant to the colors being blasted across the plaster and the only flaws I saw were with my wall and how apparently the surface was uneven near the top. When the screen did arrive, I had the initial pain of centering the UST to the screen and am about 95% of the way there but will do no better until eventually getting a cabinet. One thing that stands out from speaking with the projectorscreen.com customer support was the aspect of contrast with UST's. This is where I feel the HU915QB stands out as the blacks projected seem flawless. When used in conjunction with an ALR screen, I can see no difference in contrast, brightness, clarity or quality between this unit an an OLED television. The only issue I have with the unit is the quality of the onboard sound. For such an expensive UST, I would have hoped LG would have opted for a more robust built-in sound bar, but no such luck. In my space, it does fine; however, I am just waiting until I can finish fleshing out the entertainment center with a a proper sounds system to remove the need for using the installed sound bar.
This is my 3rd LG display, and my 2nd projector. My previous projector was a ceiling-mounted, DLP projector that sat 6-feet away from the screen on a ceiling mount that would hang down in the center of the room. Sadly, the location wasn't the worst part. The worst part was sound from the fans at nearly all times that would interrupt the viewing experience. In contrast, the 2022 LG HU915QB overcomes both of these issues, and a whole lot more. The HU915QB is a sleek, stylish tech miracle, subtly wrapped in high-quality, visually-pleasing dark gray fabric that allows the projector to blend in seamlessly with any furniture or home theater equipment you already own. Guests will have no idea that the small black box on the table by the wall is actually housing what may be the highest-quality triple laser projection system of 2022. As the current owners of a 2021 LG 48C1 OLED, and a 2022 LG 65G2 OLED, we are intimately familiar with the mind-blowing picture quality that LG displays are capable of producing. That said, we had no idea just how incredible the HU915QB would look projecting a 100-inch 4K image. We had ordered a new fixed-frame Ambient Light Rejecting / Ceiling Light Rejecting screen, but prolonged shipping delays lead us to begin projecting on our existing screen in our basement 'theater.' Setup and calibration was relatively easy, aided first by the four adjustable feet on the base, and next by the multi-point alignment controls via the settings menu. In 15 minutes we had the image dialed in, with minimal overshoot attributable entirely to our screen. The webOS interface is intuitive to navigate the menus, and to find your favorite built-in applications from all the major streaming services. The magic remote feels especially 'magic,' when you're pointing it at a 100-inch screen, and the cursor glides to your intended selection. The projector is whisper-quiet from 2 feet away. Whisper. Quiet. The projected image is extremely bright, color-accurate, and sharp. We love finding new image details in movies and shows we've seen many times before, but had never noticed. The built-in speakers exceeded our expectations whether watching movies, tv shows, or live sporting events. Multiple HDMI inputs allowed us to connect 2 current-gen gaming consoles. Gaming at 100-inches brings a new level of immersion, and we found there to be minimal input lag. The entire experience has been wonderful. We can't wait to see what LG thinks of next!-Customer Review From LG.com
