I needed a replacement for a failed HW40ES and the 5050Ub appeared to be a close replacement that wouldn't break the bank. The instructions made setup pretty straight forward. The only issue I had was finding the setting that flipped the image (mine hangs upside down). It was easy to find, just not labeled in a way I'm used to seeing.

Picture quality is amazing. The upgrade from 1080p to 4K makes for some stunning images on HDR. Support for 3D glasses is also built in which is great. I had an add on box for my Sony, and fortunately the same glasses work with the Epson, so all was good there. My kids were fascinated with the motorized lens cove.

There are a few minor gripes that keep it from getting 5 stars though. If I try to use the dynamic Iris, I hear a noise that sounds like a hard drive trying to read; motor noise I guess. My projector is right over my head, so it is pretty distracting, so I had to disable the active Iris. This seems to be a common issue. The fan noise is also louder than my Sony. Very noticeable on the brightest outputs, but only slightly louder on Cinema and Digital Cinema modes, which is where I keep it at.

Projector Screen shipped it fast and so far I am satisfied overall with the purchase and the huge upgrade in picture quality with 4K!

Variation Reviewed: Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 5050UBe 4K PRO-UHD LCD Projector with 2600 LumensI replaced my 8 year old Epson 5010 with the new Epson 5050UBe in my home theater. WOW! The difference is staggering. This projector is bright, high resolution, fulls of bells and whistles (such as motorized focus, zoom, and lens shift). It is 4K, and I have run a couple of 4K shows from Amazon Prime and Disney+. The picture is fantastic. One of my concerns was having to fish a new 2.1 HDMI cable from my receiver in the front of the room to the ceiling mounted projector in the back. The 4K wireless unit takes care of that problem, and is simple to set-up and use. As someone who has had home theater projectors for about 15 years I highly recommend this one. I read a professional review that said this was the best 4K projector under $7,000, and I totally agree.
Although released several years back now, this projector is likely to get you the best bang for your buck and is certain to impress. Great contrast and brightness ensures a great picture even in situations where full ambient light control is not possible. This is an upgrade over my previous 5025ub and feels like a big step up in all ways that matter. Strongly recommend this particular projector for anyone in the market for one.
This is the best projector I have seen. I highly recommend this product.
I was looking at a laser projector, but wanted to stay within a certain budget. A buddy of mine has this same projector and the few movies I saw at his house the picture looked great. You may be able to find another projector with better a little bit better picture, but at what price? And unless you are running this projector right next to another, you are never going to tell that this isn't perfect in one way or another. It is bright, easy to set up and use and in a great price range. I highly recommend this it. Yes, it is a big, but who cares. It is quiet and up on the ceiling it is out of my way for viewing. I haven't had it long enough to have anything negative to say but will update my review if I do. Hopefully the pictures help you decide. Also, ordering through projectorscreen.com was easy AND they had the best price that I could find. Ask them anything, they are user friendly.
