Hey guys, what's going on? It's That Home Theater Dude. I’m back with a brand new episode. I'm sitting here in ProjectorScreen.com out here in New Jersey. This is my buddy Brian Gluck. He is the owner of ProjectorScreen.com. So we're actually sitting in his layer. If you guys have been watching his channel, if you haven't, go ahead and go subscribe there right now. But we got something pretty cool behind us.
What we're looking at today are the Hisense 100L9G triple laser projectors with their brand new improved Daylight B screen.
Ambient Light Rejecting Screen
This bundled screen used to be the Daylight A and it was a hard rigid screen that was shipped as a fresnel design, which means it's using a bunch of concentric circles to negate the ambient light coming from all directions except up from the steep angle of the UST and right back at the audience.
One of the improvements that we have with the B model here is that it's rollable, so that means it ships in a traditional projector screen size box similar to the cinema screen, which we'll talk about next.
Scratch Resistant Coating
In addition, this also has an anti scratch coating. So unlike the lenticular surface of the cinema screen that's made up of a whole bunch of different ridges that can relatively be easily scratched. This is ultra smooth and it's scratch resistant, which makes it, possibly a better choice when you have small kids like both Brian and myself have at home and they're always something to be concerned about.
Perfect For Watching In Daylight And Bright Rooms
One of the primary differences between the daylight and the cinema screen is that this is intended for a brighter room. It's a higher gain. This is a 1.0 gain versus the 0.6 gain of the cinema screen. With the higher gain, what you have is a brighter punchier image, however it is at the expense of the viewing angle. Now this does have an improved viewing angle over the previous generation of daylight screen, but it's still not nearly as wide as what you're gonna find on the cinema screen. This screen is going to be the ideal choice if you have a lot of ambient light in the room, if you have relatively tall ceilings or dark ceilings and if you plan on staying within the width or slightly outside the width of the screen.
Modern Bezeled Border
One of the other advantages of the new and improved design is the shape of the actual frame. It's hard to tell in the video, but this contours outwards. And what that does is it helps mitigate the effect of that phantom DLP halo that you see with a lot of these USTs and the traditional thin bezel design.
Just looking at the Daylight screen, I really do like the overall construction and that it is different from the previous design. They kind of use that little bit of a cheat to where they have these little fasteners on the side of it. This one has more of the modern bezeled border and it kind of creates a focal point to wherever you're supposed to be looking at. So it kind of creates that little ability to help you focus in there and I really like how it's kind of tapered out so that you don't get that halo spill. If you guys have one of these things you probably know what we're talking about. So whenever you have it in a nice black environment, you will notice that there will be a little bit of a border and this helps combat that.
So overall this thing's really, really punchy. The overall quality is really, really good and I would definitely wanna check these things out in the lab as it would be at my place, but we'll talk about that later.
Improved Screen Construction
One other thing I wanna mention as we talked about the construction of the Daylight B Screen , is that the traditional soft cinema screens, they're attached to the back with springs and springs can lose tensioning over time. They could also fly out of your finger and shoot across the room and poke someone in the eye. Speaking from experience I've shot some across the room several times. So one of the new improvements of this particular design is that the tensioning rod goes in the back of the material and it fits in these types of clamps and those clamps are attached to the back of the frame with screws. So you actually create the tensioning of the screen by screwing in multiple different screws and those screws will never lose tensioning over time. So overall, you know, I've only had a couple hours of me playing with this screen.
Bundled With The Hisense L9G Or The L5G
We've watched it in both bright environments, dark environments, using it with the L9G, but it also comes bundled with the L5G. Now like I said, this is the triple laser option from Hisense. However, the L5G is the single laser option right now. This particular daylight screen is only available in a 100 inch size, but Hisense has told us they do have plans to release it in the 120 inch size in the near future as well.
I think that's gonna wrap it up really, uh, for this brand new ultra short throw projector screen. I'm pretty impressed with it. I think that you guys should check it out as well. I give this my seal of approval. If you guys wanna grab one of these, shop ProjectorScreen.com. You guys can also go and check out Brian's channel ProjectorScreen.com over on YouTube. So if you guys wanna go check him out, go ahead and give him some shine cuz no one really knows he is over there. He has like 4000 subscribers. Come on guys! You got a starving artist over here.
Make sure you like, share and subscribe and I'll catch you on the next one.
And keep on projecting!
